Poppy

So this weekend Poppy and I travelled back to Vermont France so she could visit friends, family, and co-workers. Here’s a really quick list of the highlights that she may/may not expound upon:
• I’m lazy and didn’t pack myself… so I ended up with only one sweatshirt. It was my Πmp sweatshirt from T-Shirt Hell… which also happens to be closing.
• When we got there it was around negative seventeen degrees (-17). That sweatshirt btw… not rated below freezing. I. Was. Fucking. Cold.
• Staying over at Poppy‘s friends house I got to eat awesomely fresh food, sit around in warmth, and I got to hear about things that I may not have ever found out about. Like there is drama in places other than in New York City. I was elated.
• Poppy‘s brother has excellent taste in both movies and Lego Sets. I’m pretty jealous of the Legos he has. One day when we move out of the one bedroom into a two or more bedroom… I’ll get me a Lego Set for old times sake. Then I’ll even invite my mom over and make her take her shoes off so she can step on them barefoot and howl at me with a right hook. Good times… good times.
• Poppy‘s brother also happens to live near one of the best pizza places I’ve eaten at outside of New York City. They’re called Hoagie‘s… but they serve awesome pizza. I assume they serve good hoagies too… but then again you know what happens when you assume.
• Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is pretty much the 5 minute back story from the second movie (or maybe it was the first) with 85 minutes of crap added to it. Trilogy fail.
• Poppy‘s dad is pretty straightforward shooter. He’s not shy to ask the tough questions… like whether or not I was still employed. I like that in a man.
• Poppy used to work in one of the coolest places I have ever seen. Granted her actual basement office reminds me of when I worked at the paper sucking up all those developing chemicals and really was more spooky than cool. The building where we took that picture above is really nice and modern… although I would fucking swear that those people in there were NOT college students. They looked like they belonged in high school. Seriously. It was pretty cool though… even with all the stairs.
• It was also pretty freaking weird. For whatever reason, along with the flag of the United States and the state flag they also fly the Flag of Planet Earth:

All this country, state, and planet patriotism (which I have to wonder if whether or not the flag order is correct… isn’t the planet bigger than just one little old country?) coming from the same city where I almost got sucked into the ”Fuck The Pig State” protest.
Weird… but a lot of fun.
One year ago tonight I made a really long trip from the relative warmth of a 50 degree New York City to the cold tundras of 17 degree Vermont France. I went to go see Cloverfield with a very special someone.

So it’s a year later… and all I can say is that it’s been a great year with Poppy (minus a little U-Haul meltdown) and while it both seems like only yesterday that I made that drive… I can’t wait to see what the next forty or so years has in store for us.
I
Poppy.
Happy Anniversary Day (a day early and as opposed to the week celebration we’ve been having).
In case you aren’t subscribed to Cereal Wednesday (which if you aren’t, what the hell is wrong with you???) I figured I would share this video here as well…
I
Poppy.
Merry Christmas.
That is all.
Did you feel something… different last night?
Was there a… tingle in the air?
Were things a bit… squirrely?
Of course you should all be answering yes… because I have the answer why things were that way.
Last night, in the twelfth month, on the ninth day, in the Year Of Our Lord two-thousand and eight, at the eighteenth hour…

Yes… Poppy and The Steff met.
I have to be honest… you always kind of worry about how your girlfriend is going to be able to interact with your best friend who is the person they have, for all intense purposes, replaced. The meeting really wasn’t planned. Donkey and The Steff are moving and they needed some help. Since I pretty much put together all of her furniture where they are now, I went to help take it apart and I took the opportunity to take Poppy with me. There was a hug and a kiss on the cheek involved… so good signs… good signs. Of course, it ended up being taking the furniture apart, moving it, and re-assembling it… along with a fuck ton of other things.
But this is New York. Things change on the fly before you realize it… and Poppy went right along with the change.
Yes. Poppy is truly in a New Yorker mentality.
It was a busy ass weekend. Here’s a quick recap:
EDIT: Poppy has a much better and detailed account of weekend activities.
Quite a list huh? Amidst doing the truck ton of errands and things that got added to the day… I tried to explain to Poppy that besides New York Minutes equate to forty seconds, it’s really a pretty dynamic lifestyle. While I like to have a list or an idea of a list of things to get done… things change and as a New Yorker I generally change with it. I think Poppy is getting that being exposed to it now daily, unlike those who look for set things to do on weekends. Granted, it’s not necessarily easy being dynamic… especially more than a Cascading Style Sheet the way I am.
Being as dynamic as I am… there are still plenty of fixed things in my life. I still have my Windows ‘74 desktop computer, my $49.99 Staples corner desk special, and my antique 1999 Ford Explorer. Recently though, I have gladly added more fixed things in my life although they are dynamic in their own right… namely a Ripples cat, a Cheezburger cat, and Bleached cat. Of course… the most fixed dynamic aspect is that of a Poppy (what type of rice will it be today?) which is an adventure (in a good way) everyday in itself. Still there are those fixed items that we wish were dynamic and changing and growing but aren’t… like this picture… that is now hanging in the living room.
Some fixed things you have to accept as fixed… and trying to keep those things from taking the dynamics out of the rest of your existence is still something I’m trying to be dynamic about.
Of course, another item on the proverbial plate o’stuff is The Steff‘s birthday on Wednesday. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to run a poll this time around… so instead I’m sending the Second Place runner up, Coco Bear, from the last birthday poll. Did she ever get the winner of the V-Day Bear poll you ask? Nope. Because once again Vermont Teddy Bear is still out of the First Place winner… the Bee Bear.
So once Coco Bear begins her journey, rest assured I will keep all of you advised as to her progress and whether or not Vermont Teddy Bear can come through yet again.
