Did I happen to mention that I’m not in New York? Yeah… I’m not. I’m actually in Portsmouth, New Hampshire for my cousin’s wedding. My brother and I drove up yesterday evening. To call the weather unfavorable is being kind. It was raining 55 gallon drums… not buckets… for more than half-way there.
I’m not shy about driving in the rain… and with the experience I have had driving in lots of rain AND high winds, it really wasn’t that bad. What I found terribly annoying about the ordeal was the GPS unit I borrowed from my friend Tomatohead. The GPS unit (who I fondly called Ginger in the beginning) originally gave me an ETA of 11:07pm. It crept up to 11:50pm through Connecticut where the rain was. After a brief pit stop off I-90, it was up to 12:21 am. Okay… no problem is what I’m thinking when we get back on the road in better conditions.
Although I was pushing 80 65mph, the damn thing would not give me back a minute on the ETA. In fact… it went up to 12:25am. This irked the living hell out of me… especially when I pulled into the hotel at 12:17am. What the hell was up with that GPS unit (who I now am calling cumguzzling whore)? Pride? Really now.
So anyway… I know I forgot to mention this little trip… partially because I wasn’t sure I wa going until this week when my mother let it slip that she told my aunt that I WAS coming. Pretty slick of her, no? Well here’s where the problem is… on Saturday at 10:30am I need to be in New Jersey for Blinky‘s cheerleading competition. So what this means is that tomorrow, after the wedding, I’m leaving the reception to drive the 5-6 hours back into New Jersey for Saturday mornings competition.
If I don’t do this… then that means one of two things. Either my aunt will not have seen me, and undoubtedly be mad at my mother… or I will not be there for Blinky who I promised I would attend this competition because its a really big deal to her. The things I do for the women in my life. Did I mention I’ll probably be arrested at the airport on Sunday?
It’s going to be an interesting weekend.
