The Steff
I would be severely remiss if I didn’t blog about this weekend’s auspicious occasion. For those of you who are fans of my photoblog… you know that Saturday wasn’t just any normal Valentine’s Day. For long time readers of this blog, you will undoubtedly recall that I used to blog about a lot of drama that used to involve a few people in my life including my best friend, The Steff. This past Valentine’s Day was also the wedding of The Steff and The Donkey…

And get wedded they did!!!
There was a lot of preparation and little reminders. I of course was ready way before the groom…

We had a trained hanky folder and a flower pinner… thanks to the educational power of YouTube.

We rode in the limo to the church. The driver thought he was in the mob or something. I didn’t know the mob rented limos with balloons in them.

There was quite a bit of stress… but not really any from The Donkey. Valium does wonders.

It’s safe to say the church was interesting. I was in the wedding party so I got to walk down the aisle too! I felt quite special. Of course our photos came out shitty but they did have professional photographers… who had warmed up taking pictures of furniture. Furniture. Really. Professionals. I seriously could do that job. Yet we still took some nice pictures outside.

And then we went to party…

And party…

And party…

Until we could party no more…

So yes ladies and gentleman… the day The Steff has talked about since the second I met her has come… and gone… in all one fail swoop to once again reinforce to me that I’m getting older and not younger.
Oh… and I really need a dye job badly.
Seriously. Silver streaks all over.
No goosh.
What is goosh is that tonight will be another episode of Lick. Slam. Suck. covering historical Santa Fe, another Tequila based drink, more Santa Fe Bloggers, and perhaps most importantly… we’ll be talking about hotels.
Did you feel something… different last night?
Was there a… tingle in the air?
Were things a bit… squirrely?
Of course you should all be answering yes… because I have the answer why things were that way.
Last night, in the twelfth month, on the ninth day, in the Year Of Our Lord two-thousand and eight, at the eighteenth hour…

Yes… Poppy and The Steff met.
I have to be honest… you always kind of worry about how your girlfriend is going to be able to interact with your best friend who is the person they have, for all intense purposes, replaced. The meeting really wasn’t planned. Donkey and The Steff are moving and they needed some help. Since I pretty much put together all of her furniture where they are now, I went to help take it apart and I took the opportunity to take Poppy with me. There was a hug and a kiss on the cheek involved… so good signs… good signs. Of course, it ended up being taking the furniture apart, moving it, and re-assembling it… along with a fuck ton of other things.
But this is New York. Things change on the fly before you realize it… and Poppy went right along with the change.
Yes. Poppy is truly in a New Yorker mentality.
Here is the status report for The Steff’s 2008 Birthday Bear, Coco…

According to projections from UPS, Coco Bear will be delivered today… September 24… right on The Steff‘s Birthday!!! Through the good graces of Vermont Teddy Bear and UPS… we will have yet another successful birthday delivery.
So as a sidenote… if anyone is totally bored out of their skull today and you want to wish The Steff a happy birthday… you can send her an e-card from Blue Mountain, 123Greetings, or SomeEcards to steff1luv(at)aol(dot)com.
See how I am? I’m such a giver… offering up my best friend as an interweb sacrifice so you can occupy some more of your time that should be spent working for the man.
Damn the man.
Save the empire.
It was a busy ass weekend. Here’s a quick recap:
EDIT: Poppy has a much better and detailed account of weekend activities.
Quite a list huh? Amidst doing the truck ton of errands and things that got added to the day… I tried to explain to Poppy that besides New York Minutes equate to forty seconds, it’s really a pretty dynamic lifestyle. While I like to have a list or an idea of a list of things to get done… things change and as a New Yorker I generally change with it. I think Poppy is getting that being exposed to it now daily, unlike those who look for set things to do on weekends. Granted, it’s not necessarily easy being dynamic… especially more than a Cascading Style Sheet the way I am.
Being as dynamic as I am… there are still plenty of fixed things in my life. I still have my Windows ‘74 desktop computer, my $49.99 Staples corner desk special, and my antique 1999 Ford Explorer. Recently though, I have gladly added more fixed things in my life although they are dynamic in their own right… namely a Ripples cat, a Cheezburger cat, and Bleached cat. Of course… the most fixed dynamic aspect is that of a Poppy (what type of rice will it be today?) which is an adventure (in a good way) everyday in itself. Still there are those fixed items that we wish were dynamic and changing and growing but aren’t… like this picture… that is now hanging in the living room.
Some fixed things you have to accept as fixed… and trying to keep those things from taking the dynamics out of the rest of your existence is still something I’m trying to be dynamic about.
Of course, another item on the proverbial plate o’stuff is The Steff‘s birthday on Wednesday. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to run a poll this time around… so instead I’m sending the Second Place runner up, Coco Bear, from the last birthday poll. Did she ever get the winner of the V-Day Bear poll you ask? Nope. Because once again Vermont Teddy Bear is still out of the First Place winner… the Bee Bear.
So once Coco Bear begins her journey, rest assured I will keep all of you advised as to her progress and whether or not Vermont Teddy Bear can come through yet again.

So I got an e-mail from The Steff. She went with her mom and Lollipop to try on wedding dresses… afterall… the big day is only 6 months away.
So she sent a couple pictures of different dresses.
Some were nice.
Some not so nice.
This one, which apparently was the overall favorite, irked the living hell out of me.
At first I thought it was the it was the lace jumble in the abdominal area that was bothersome… but no… I kind of like that.
Then I thought it was the vertical pleats in the bust area… it seems so blah… and while that definitely is a detractor, it isn’t the sinker on this dress for me.
Then I looked at the skirt. A good long look. I personally am a fan of the poofy dress. In fact, I love and adore the southern belle style hoop dresses. While this dress definitely looked poofy… it just didn’t look like the right kind of poof.
So in my head I started thinking of all the women I could remember in poofy dresses… Melissa Gilbert (Little House on the Prairie), Viven Leigh (Gone With the Wind), and of course Christina Ricci (Sleepy Hollow). That’s when I realized it. The image popped into my skull and seared itself into my gray matter.
The reason this dress is a total crash and burn for me isn’t because of WHAT it looks like… but of WHO it reminds me of…
