Congratulations on the first day!

And in answer to your question:

absolutely not.  Because she’s still not John McCain.  Thank GOD.

Congrats on making it the first day!! I used the gum when I quit and it seemed to help me the most. I also chewed straws smile

If you like stats, get a stat counter thingie - it helped keep me motivated at first. The only other thing I’ll say is ... it will get a little easier as you keep going. Maybe not a lot easier, but a little. :D

comment by Cap  on  06/04  at  06:41 AM

I didn’t read far enough. You did get a counter. My bad!

comment by Cap  on  06/04  at  06:43 AM

Congratulations on the success so far.

I saw about 5 minutes of the news last night and had assumed Hillary had tossed the towel in until I started catching up on blogs this morning.

I’m guessing she’s a reader here ... so let me just say: it’s time, girl.

Congrats on making it through Day 1!

I would not vote for the Democrats if Hillary Clinton was asked to run with Obama.  I honestly don’t think she should have run in the first place.  Not because she’s a woman, but because of her husband.  They’ve had their chance to run the White House, and look at all that happened...no thanks!

Honestly, I hope Obama picks someone who has a bit more experience, and a better personality....

Miss Britt- Wow… you’re up early today!  ! day down… only about 40,000 or so more to go!  I know she isn’t McCain… but I really think she’d probably be worse… and Obama as President would probably be one of the highest assassination targeted Presidents in history.

Cap- I’m trying to stay away from straws… because if I accidentally light one of them… well that’s like smoking a crack pipe without the glass.  I agree… it’ll get easier… I think once I get past the weekend the automatic sensation of it should for the most part be gone… I hope.

Delmer- I couldn’t agree with you more.

Cissa- I agree, having her back in there would be the same mistake we made by electing another Bush.  It seems like the Presidency has become some sort of dynasty thing, and I don’t think that’s what democracy is about.

I think that there are a lot of shortsighted Democrats who said that they wouldn’t vote for Obama if he got the nomination over Clinton, and the only way to cinch the Democratic vote may be for her to be VP.

I’m okay with it.

comment by Avitable  on  06/04  at  08:53 AM

"and Obama as President would probably be one of the highest assassination targeted Presidents in history.”

Ah the power of 8 years under the Bush administration.  Decisions based on fear.

Good luck with the quitting! You can do it!

comment by Lynda  on  06/04  at  09:26 AM

On one hand, Obama probably can’t win without the votes Hillary brings with her.

On the other hand, Obama would not be able to control, understand, believe, or trust Hillary.  Hillary does not work for anyone.  Other people work for Hillary.

He’s stuck.

Avi- I can understand that perspective, but you have to wonder if people are actually voting for her… or her name.

Miss Britt- Not really a decision based on fear… a decision based on statistical data.  As Vice-President, her chances of becoming President are 1000% better than Dick Cheney’s current odds.  Why?  Because a religious zealot is already in the prime seat.  She would be serving under a man who just left his church.  Religious zealots everwhere will be on “missions from God"… and that isn’t even taking into account the whole race thing.  The only really good thing is that at least they don’t use convertibles in motorcades anymore, and the Secret Service has improved since Dallas.

Lynda- Can I do it?  Yes I can!  I am so feeling like Bob the Builder.

Whall- I think that Obama could win without her or her “votes”.  I do agree with exactly what you said about her, and the fact that her own husband’s administration ostracized his own Vice-President for her instead is a prime example of it.

You can’t besmirch Al Gore, the inventor of the Internet, and get away with it!

Good job on surviving Day 1.

I’m voting for the Democratic ticket in November no matter who is on it.  I don’t think they will pick her for the VP slot.  They need to go with someone tough and experienced in foreign policy.  They just have to figure out who that might be.

comment by B.E. Earl  on  06/04  at  10:11 AM

Go you! Once day (hour?) at a time. It gets better, I promise.

And no, it wouldn’t change my vote. But I do wonder about all the people who hate Hillary just because she’s got a vagina and forgot her “place” when Bubba was in the White House. Those are the people that worry me…

comment by Finn  on  06/04  at  10:33 AM

I would never vote for her in any way unless it was off the island.

I am really proud of you.  smiley

So, did you actually hide the lighter after I suggested it?

comment by Poppy  on  06/04  at  11:05 AM

Two more days, and then it’s out of your system, physically.

The rest becomes mental...speaking of Hilary, I love her but she needs to swallow her pride and admit defeat.  She can get to be VP if she plays her cards right.

Do you like tootsie roll pops?  I bought the dumdums from Rite Aid when I quit.  Little lollipops with cool flavors.  Love them.

comment by Smiley/Dimplz  on  06/04  at  11:23 AM

Good job on the first day.  When I quit I had to look at it as a day by day process.  I’m not smoking *today* I make absolutely no guarantees about tomorrow… It’s fucking hard, but it’s so worth it man!

If Hillary gets the VP nod it changes nothing in my mind.  I’ll still be voting a straight Democratic ticket and holding my breath hoping for the best.

comment by Chris  on  06/04  at  12:13 PM

I could just be another person to congratulate you on going a whole day without a cigarette, but I’m not in the mood because I have been without a cigarette since December. I still crave them and it makes me irritable. Now where is my fucking congratulations?!?!  HUH?  WHERE IS IT?!?

Sorry, it’s not easy quitting.

My strongest cravings come when I smell one that has just been lit, or the smell of the smoke AFTER it has been exhaled. That’s the best.

I will wish you good luck in your endeavor, but don’t get your hopes up about completely losing cravings.

comment by Bucky  on  06/04  at  01:11 PM

I am so afraid of a Hillary/Obama ticket.  I think put together they would beat McCain (my pick).  But I don’t know if either of their egos could handle it.

By the way, you HAVE to come check out the video I have up right now of Hillary and Obama getting it on.  It is freakin’ hilarious!!!!

Congrats on Day 1....hang in there.  smile

So many people say, “it doesn’t matter who is president.” Well, to me, it matters which PARTY is in charge, that much, yes it does matter. They are both strong Democratic leaders, so it’s really not THAT important WHO it is, so yes it would be fine to see an Obama-Hillary ticket.
But I doubt it would happen.

If it did happen and people would change parties because of it?  then those people are fucking idiots who shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

It’s PRINCIPLES before PERSONALITIES.

MetalMom- While I don’t think toothpicks have that addictive quality… I have gotten a strange craving for pine…

B.E. Earl- I agree that I don’t think they want or need her… but as Whall has pointed out they might think otherwise.  Coming from a state that saw their Governor replaced by a relative unknown, I’m paying more attention to that second spot than I may otherwise.

Finn- Yeah… one toothpick at a time… and I think the people that you’re talking about are Al Gore’s supporters… who happen to be primarily Obama supporters now.

Mutt Royalty- The Tribe Has Spoken!!!

Poppy- Yes… I hid the lighter… in the trash.  I won’t be singing anymore nose hairs.  smiley

Smiley/Dimplz- I know it’s totally mental… which isn’t always my strongest front.  I’m all about DumDums… except the Clinton kind.

Chris- Yeah… it should definitely be worth it to taste steak again.  I think at this point she’d be more detrimental than anything.

Bucky- I actually revel in the second hand smoke.  It’s nostalgic for me.  Congrats on quitting the cigarette for 6+ months!!!

BlondBlogger- Sadly, I think Ron Paul could beat McCain at this point… especially since McCain has the stigmata of being a third term for Bush

Annie- You really can’t say that it’s party principals before personalities since most of the candidates have very mixed views not necessarily in sync with the party line.  In fact, a great example is former Vice-President candidate Joe Lieberman from Connecticut, who declared himself an Independent.  How convicted to his party values was he that he broke away from them?  Just because I’m registered Republican doesn’t mean I didn’t vote for Al Gore and even John Kerry… because I did.

Yeah to you for quitting smoking!

Yes, I’d still vote for Obama if Hillary was on the ticket, but I do not see that happening. She’s made her attack personal about him. She does not know how to be a gracious loser. Plus, they conflict at the very heart of things: Iraq, Healthcare and lobbyists. Oh and Obama said when he becomes president, he’ll immediately begin an investigation into the Bush regime to see if any crimes have been committed… that should be an easy one, but at least he came out & said he’ll do it.
I’m guessing Jim Webb or Ted Strickland.

If anything happens to Obama, make no mistake, it will be due to racism. For 1, the guys a Christian, regardless if he left his church or not. If that was given as the reason, it would just be an excuse. I do wish people would start saying he’s 1/2 caucasian though.

Jane- I agree, her attacks were old politics and personal.  I don’t see him picking her if he intends to continue his mantra of being the candidate of “change”.  I wouldn’t be so quick to discount the religious zealots… but I do agree that the fact he is 1/2 caucasian, and raised primarily by his caucasian mother, is often overlooked.

I didn’t say
”party principals before personalities”.
I said simply “principals before personalities”.

There are too many stupid people in the world who ARE missing the important issues and nitpicking over someone’s middle name or if her husband cheated.

I would have loved to watch you lighting a toothpick without realizing it!  Though it sounds like there isn’t likely to be a videotaped repeat performance since you’ve hidden the lighter.  Oh well, congrats on being one of the few who managed to abstain from cigarettes today!  (And hopefully the number of times you have to hold your head in your hands in woe will be decreasing as the quitting proceeds)

Annie- Ah, gotcha now.  Yes, I agree that someone’s principles matter more than their personality, although I also think personality can be a gauge of how convicted they are to their principals.

Fantastagirl- Thanks!  I’m tryin’!

Karl- You biased?  No way!

Girl, Dislocated- Lighting a toothpick is not as easy as it seems… and toothpicks are quite a bit shorter than ciggies, so the flame gets a little too close to the nose hairs for comfort.
