Pfft.  Coke Zero, Splenda, Sugar-free pudding - you won’t be able to tell the difference!

I’ll set out some carrot sticks for you at the party.

Yeah, I used to do all that. I ate copious amounts of sugar. I used to gorge on candy during halloween. I ate tremendous amounts of tastykakes.

No more. After being diagnosed with Malignant diabetes, a kidney transplant, I’m finally really taking care of myself. somewhat. LOL But I don’t eat fatty foods, I don’t eat sugary food, and like avitable says, splenda, coke zero, sugar-free pudding, you’ll never be able to tell!

The sugar free lifestyle is great. and you go poo a lot too. hehe

I certainly feel better for being lighter, and I was always someone who poo pooed the health obsessed.

Plus, if you are healthier then you’ll enjoy the walk a hell of a lot more.

But I’ll stop encouraging now, just in case it comes across as nagging.

What a way to go…

You know what is really annoying?  When friends who care about you comment that they can totally help you find delicious snacks that are also good for you and then tell you that they want you to stay around too.

Soooo, I won’t do that.

I’ll just say that I totally get the struggle and if you ever want any unsoliscited ASSvice on this subject, you know how to find me.  smile

No DNR on the chest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I have no legal say/credibility at the hospital if you go down so I’m not opposed to you having the DNR announcement on you, I just don’t want to see it when I’m fucking your brains out.

Death by pudding, works for me. That or death by bagels.

comment by Robin  on  10/08  at  08:19 AM

What a way to go?

Are you kidding?

You realize that death by sugar comes in the form of diabetes, kidney failure, heart problems, obesity, etc. etc. etc. - right?

Heh.  My spam word is “moral”

comment by Miss Britt  on  10/08  at  09:01 AM

Possibly if you drowned in a vat of chocolate pudding…

I don’t vote for artifical sweetners. I vote for cutting back. Doesn’t mean you can’t ever have it, just not as much. Can you do that?

comment by Finn  on  10/08  at  10:02 AM

Giving up sugar isn’t the hard part.  It’s not falling off the wagon that is.

comment by Barb  on  10/08  at  02:11 PM

"Most men dig their graves with their teeth” someone once said.  i truly believe that sugar can be as addictive as alcohol - sugar changes your brain chemistry . . .

artificial sweeteners are not the answer, though. gawd knows how carcinogenic all of them will prove to be.  if you *have* to sweeten your coffee or tea, try stevia, a natural sweetener.  also - once you’re not eating sugar every day, you will be *amazed* at how everything tastes better - and you will be able to detect the natural sweetness in vegetables, and obviously, fruits.  if you really want to do this, you should avoid bread and pasta for a while too, as they pretty much convert to sugar the minute you chew ‘em up. happy healthy eating!

mmmm I love the sugar too and it’s my biggest weakness as well.

A better way to die? Well, you could be having sex while eating chocolate.... while watching your enemies die....

Maybe that’s just my fantasy…

I just hope you choose being around for a long time.

Back some years ago, I switched doctors.  He ran some tests on me, one of which was an ultrasound.  They found a small kidney stone.  Questions were asked when we discussed the results and I had to give up soda and reduce the amount of high fructose corn syrup products I consumed.

Since then, the kidney stone is gone and I rarely drink soda (one a week is what I average).

I still have pudding and other sugar products, but I had to go through an adjustment and diet change before I could lightly introduce these products back into my consumption again, albeit at smaller and fewer portions.

I have just one thing to say...Think of all you’d miss with Poppy and of all you’d be depriving her of.  Just a thought.

I had a doctor put me on a 40g a day fat diet. Because you need some fat, right? I did it for the longest month of my life.

It’s all about moderation. I don’t eat 40g of fat a day, but I don’t eat junk food every day either.

I am a firm believer in finding the lifestyle plan that works for a person. For me it was Weight Watchers. (And you should see the crap I still eat - seriously) A free one is SparkPeople.com. There also is The Daily Plate, from Livestrong.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to get preachy in your comment, but hell, you and Poppy have a good thing going, and it kind of gives me hope for myself. So stop killing yourself, ok?

I have the sugar problem the other way, I eat too many carbs.  Cut down my carbs, I switched everything to sugar free, cut out what little sweets I did eat, eventually got used to it. Catalyst was when my doc told me I’m on the verge of a massive stroke.

I for one would like to see you around a long ass time. Good luck!

Luckily, my parents were very good with instilling a proper diet into me when I was young --- that, in addition to the fact that asian cuisine tends to be better balanced than Western cuisine---meant I never had much problems in the way of excess sugar or fat.

I’m not really qualified to give advice in this thread, but perhaps the one thing I’ll ask is whether you’ve tried to limit access to such junk food. Stop keeping Coke bottles and the such around your house. Stop running off to the 7-11. In addition, start keeping bottles of water close on hand. The next time you feel thirsty, you’ll feel more inclined (and laziness will prevail) and just grab the nearest thing. Eventually, you’ll cycle onto this new habit.

I know people (a lot of bodybuilders, for example) who never go out without carrying a bottle of water, which they sip religiously. Not only does this develop into a good habit, but when faced with spending $$$ on a Coke or a coffee, they’ll think, “What’s the point, when I already have bottle of water?”.

And this is of course quite relevant to parents. The easiest way to instill a good diet into your kids is to just keep the healthy stuff around.

Phil, the problem with the bottle of water idea, though, is that then you become that douche who’s always carrying around a bottle of water!

comment by Avitable  on  10/13  at  08:13 AM

So...if I always carry around a bottle of bottled water instead of a sports bottle of water, does that make me more or less of a douche?  lol

comment by Barb  on  10/13  at  12:17 PM

I eat unhealthy food all the time, but it’s because it’s so easy! And surprisingly, less money. If I ever got told to cut my candy and sugar habits, I don’t think I could do it.

But, I like you and so do a lot of other people so I think you should give it a super awesome try smile
