WHY did you think this isn’t a good post? It’s about SECURITY! You know I eat that shit up!
That shirt looks like it couldn’t protect a flea, but ok.
And I am more concerned for the safety of this president than any president I’ve known in my lifetime. I want him to stay alive so he can actualize some good stuff.
Maybe he’ll wear bullet-proof saran wrap, but I’m guessing he’s more hard core and will just say “I’m here to do a job, I’ll keep the faith in my people that they’ll let me do it.”
I would hope that we would have learned from our past and that the SS has all the bases covered. I hope, anyway.
So what you’re saying is that they actually DO have the technology to make comfortable body armor for cops and yet they’re all still walking around wearing that hot, bulky crap? Or not, which is usually the case because it’s bulky and hot.
Of course I’m sure the price tag has something to do with it. I wonder what the protection level is on that shirt… it says from a 9mm to an Uzi, but at what distance?
I dunno. JFK and Lincoln died from head shots. Garfield and McKinley would have survived their wounds given today’s medical technology. Reagan survived a chest shot.
I think the SS should get these guys bullet-proof ski masks to go along with those sweet looking polo shirts.
I’d like to see a video comparison between these shirts and a legitimate vest. Pricetag aside, I find it hard to believe that they offer the same protection...if that’s a photo of the actual product that is.
As for the comments about the president, being a Chicagoan, I have to believe the secret service has their act together on this one. He survived being in the middle of Grant Park after he was elected, which is basically asking for it...from all sides. Additionally, the Chicago Police and SS have the entire area within 8 blocks in all directions of his residence cordoned off…
With that new President Scent Obama’s got going on, I wouldn’t be surprised if he came out with his own type of bulletproof shirt...perhaps a bulletproof dinner jacket or something
Protection from penetration is one thing, but I’m more concerned with the dissipation of kinetic energy, here. I’m guessing that a traditional vest will be designed so that the bullet deforms on impact (like the front of a car), and the energy is thus dissipated throughout the vest. Will something like this work as well?
Making sure the bullet doesn’t penetrate is only half the battle. Will the target survive the blunt force trauma? That’s another question.
