I love Rachel Bilson. Really really love her. I’m not gay or anything. But I love her.
I’m not reading this review because I do want to see the movie and I think you spoil everything, but I want to say that Hayden Christensen didn’t ruin Star Wars. George Lucas did. Even an excellent actor like Ewan MacGregor had trouble working with the all-digital environment. Hayden Christensen has had some good roles in non-sci fi, and he’s a pretty decent actor.
Amanda- I understand. Totally.
Avitable- I can understand the difficulties of acting in the digital environment, but his lack of realistic emotional range shows through there, just as it does here. When you do see it, I’d be interested in your thoughts about it… particularly if you think the plot would make any sense to the average person. While it made 27 million this past weekend, I tend to think its going to plummet.
“In each of us two natures are at war… the good and the evil. All our lives the fight goes on between them, but one of them must conquer. In our own hands lies the power to choose. What we want most to be we are.” – Dr. Henry Jekyll
Have you seen Life as a House or Shattered Glass? He’s got range when he has a good director, I think.
This movie looked like crap in the trailer.
Will not be seeing it.
I honestly didn’t even know this movie existed until you mentioned it.
Hayden is like a dirty sponge when there are no other sponges in the house. I’d rather just eat off dirty dishes.
Based on what you described, I don’t want to see this movie or its sequel!
Trailer had me hooked. Can’t wait to see it. I don’t have nearly the lofty standards most people do, and I’m glad because I’m rarely disappointed and I sure do love being happy. I loved all 6 SW movies, for example.
I remember a jumper-like subplot line in one of the Wild Cards sci-fi book series by George R R Martibn. Unlimited plot devices (and dozens of authors contributing) made possible by a virus that causes instant horrible death in some (jokers), passively ignores most, and grants superpowers in a rare few (aces).
Dangit - now I need to go re-read the series.
I haven’t seen a movie in a long time. This one sounds odd.
Might have to catch it when they play it on TV.
I despise Hayden Christensen with a passion because of those last 2 Star Wars films. I despise him for The Phantom Menace too, even though he wasn’t in it.
Life as a House was pretty good, though. I’m just sayin’.
I am not particularly fond of Christensen or Bilson as actors, however, when I saw the trailer for this movie it did pique my interest. Sometimes I am willing to see a film even though I have no interest in seeing the lead actors. It’s rare, but it does happen.
Sadly, the storyline is rarely so good that I forget I dislike the actors. On even rarer occasions do the actors surprise the hell out of me by actually showing some talent. I wanted to see Jumper this weekend but was talked into seeing The Eye instead. Perhaps that was a blessing. So, I will add this one to my List of Flicks to Rent & save my $13.95 admission price for something else.
Thanks, Dawg.
I saw the book the other day and bought it on a whim. It was written in 1992, which I thought was interesting.
And the book doesn’t have Paladins or other jumpers or anything other than a seriously good story with a couple interesting little plot twists that made perfect sense.
I loved the book.
And I hate it when a good book is ruined by a horrible movie. So thanks for the warning
If you didn’t see Sexman’s review of this film I highly recommend watching it now just to hear him say “hunka shit”.
