This pseudo-bleeding heart liberal loves the men and women who have served and protected our country.  Do people really lecture them on being evil?  That makes me feel like kicking someone’s ass.

I know the guy at work was kidding about the “happy” part, but if I hear him say it to my boss I’m going to give him The Talk.

I’m a bleeding heart - and I don’t think there’s anything evil about a veteran.

I think a veteran could tell you about the “evils” of war better than any protesting liberal.

Faiqa- Sadly, yes they do.  Not only are there random lectures, but protests at memorial services.  I can understand the unpopularity of a war and a government’s policies… but I’m against taking those feelings out on people who did not make those policies but served their country who elected those policymakers.

Poppy- Don’t bother giving him The Talk.  Send him to Washington Square so he can get The Fist.

Miss Britt- You are so NOT a bleeding heart… and I absolutely agree that they have first hand experience of the “evils” and it usually haunts them for their lives…

I always try to thank them, anyway, if they’re in uniform. It’s just flat out the right thing to do.

Can you explain to me why my children are not aware of the poem, “In Flanders’ Fields”?  I thought it was derigeur for today?

On the other hand, it is also the first time they have celebrated their grandmother’s birthday without her… so maybe I will give them a pass..

As a child of the 50’s and 60’s and a college student during the Vietnam War… and the daughter of a 20-year Navy career man, I have acquired knowledge and experience from many a side.

Today, when I was handed a red poppy by an elderly Veteran… my honor of his service overflowed into tears.  The subject of war is so difficult… but heroism is immeasurable.  When I think of the numbers of unknown heroes who have changed our very existence, my gratitude is immeasurable as well.  The red poppy means more to me than I can even express…

I’m not sure I saw a veteran yesterday but I did send good thoughts their way.

An excellent point--it will always be Remembrance Day in my head and you should never say ‘happy’ connected to it.

I just wanted to say bless you and thank you for this magnificent post.  In a society wer people are getting beaten up for wearing the poppy to show their respect it is great to know there are stil wonders like you around.

Thank you.

Miss Britt- No… maybe a little leaky… but definitely not a bleeder.

Sybil- I agree… its definitely the right thing to do at the very least.

Maman- Sadly, In Flanders’ Fields has lost its prominence… but the Poppy has persevered.

Sharon- The red poppy’s meaning is just one small expression of the amount of gratitude we are not truly capable of showing to those who served…

Charlene- Every now and then its good to jog a memory from the noggin

LisaB- It’s hard not to come across one… whether we realize it or not.

Turnbaby- Yes… that part was inspired by something Poppy told me one of her co-worker’s said.  To me its obvious… but to others perhaps it isn’t.

Bec- No need to thank me… I’m not a veteran.  Their the ones we need to be mindful of and show our gratitude to.
