I don’t see any difference in using Amazon referral links and using contextual advertising, actually.

Poppy- Your just a very adoring person.

Avitable- Huge difference.  You can control exactly what your advertising with Amazon Affiliate links, whereas the other advertising is chosen algorithmically based on the context of the page.  Therefore in theory, you could be railing against the evils of pig farmers and earn money from advertising for Jimmy Dean Sausages.  Kind of hypocritical, no?

No.  You could be linking to a product, but Amazon could also suggest another product that is completely inappropriate, so I think it’s very similar.

I think that depends on what type of Amazon link you’re using.  They offer both contextual widgets and direct links to products.  If you are linking to a product, such as a book you read that you liked, and the reader clicks to that book the Amazon recommendations are being done on their site, not your blog and those clearly are not your recommendations.

I agree that using an Amazon contextual widget is similar, but the vast majority of affiliate advertising offer direct to product links.
