People do realize that this will still be this family’s pet long after he leaves the White House, right?
Nevermind. Of course they do. People are awesome at looking beyond what’s right in front of them. DUH!
I’m a little concerned that the man we elected president has decided to get a pet that will make his daughter sneeze. I think they should get a turtle.
There’s a lot can be said about a person by his dog. Or cat. I like Rottweilers and long-haired kitties. I am also fierce and protective, pretty smart, and have a tendency to rub people the wrong way from time to time - or just shed all over the place.
Anyhoo, I popped back over to Avitable’s and saw your response back to me. I LOVE when people acknowledge me, and float away when they give me more info to “chew on.” I totally love you, dude. Someone intelligent, not just browbeating me to listen but giving lessons in a way that makes you WANT to learn more instead of just raising the hackles, ya know?
Personally, I think it’s awesome that you’re opinionated - because you have the brains to back it up and you’re a big enough person to keep an open mind, talk to people without talking down to them, and willing to listen to what others have to say, too. Hope to chat with you some more, about lots and lots of other stuff!
Perhaps they should just have Webkinz pets for now. Those are hypoallergenic, and the German Shepherd one is adorable.
They should just go full on and get a rescue dog and some Zirtec. I LOVE Dobermans--I grew up raising and rescuing them.
That being said I laughed out loud as soon as I saw where this was going.
And I ADORE the phrase ‘ambient stupidty’ ---I will credit you when I use it.
I had a German shepard/Dobie mix when I was growing up! Awesome dog, great post.
Whew.... for a minute there I thought we were going to debate something lacking no substance whatsoever… my faith is restored
what about a Pit Bull with Lipstick??
I LOVE Poppy’s solution to the problem. WEBKINZ rock. I have a Pink Poodle. Maybe they should go with that. Oh wait, you don’t like the poodle.
Still a Webkinz would be awesome.
I had a gorgeous shepard/chow mix that looked like a small Belgian malinois.
Have you ever seen a standard poodle? Without the fussy cut, they’re cool dogs. And smart as hell. Yes, I know they’re “French,” but the shepard is “German” as is the doberman…
I do believe the Obamas have committed to trying to adopt a rescued pet. The allergy thing makes it harder; the only two hypoallergenic dogs I know of are poodles and schnauzers.
I love that Obama originally said in his first press conference that he “preferred a shelter dog, a mutt, like me.”
So charming! Yes, I’m gushing.
I recounted the statement to my husband who, I guess, thought I was joking instead of quoting, until they played the clip again on the nightly news.
I have the hairiest and most shedding-est dog on the planet, a husky-maybe-wolf-plus-probably-something-else mix. She was a shelter AND then a rescue dog and she has been the sweetest dog I’ve ever had. So I put up with the hair.
They should go for cats.
I have cats. I like cats. They should have cats.
Dogs are okay too, I guess.
What was I saying?
Personally, I’d go with a rot, mastiff or bulldog - all three are amazing and gorgeous creatures.
If they were so worried about allergies, why’d they promise the kids a dog?
I have a Boston Terrier. He is short haired, not much of a shedder, playful and just butch-looking enough to outweigh the fact that he is a cute little fuzzy wuzzy wumpkin *ahem* sorry about that last part!
Miss Britt- Sure… try selling that line to Socks the Clinton cat who not only was de-clawed because of the antiques in the White House… but was banished to live the rest of his life with the secretary.
Cap- While I’m not opposed to the turtle species in general… I really see that as more of a Republican animal.
Angie- EXACTLY! Your choice of animal is a subconscious projection of yourself. If Obama really chooses a Poodle… then more than Houston will be having a problem.
Poppy- That would be well and good… until the Chinese government attacks the WebKinz servers and cyber-nap the first dog. Not cool.
Turnbaby- I’m all about the Zirtec. Nothing wrong with medicating Radiance so Rover can be a proper proud symbol of the office.
Avitable- When exactly did we start flying the Union Jack again? Oh… right… one nation under Hilton and all that.
Faiqa- EXACTLY!!! C’mon Faiqa, you got some pull… make that call!
Willie G- Even though I know it will never happen… it would be AWESOME if they did.
Sybil- Yes… those yappy little dogs drive me nutty. We have one next door which grates my nerves a bit… but I really can’t say anything… since there are NO cats living with us.
Lisa- I too love the WebKinz… but we need something with more than a virtual bite.
Finn- My aunt actually had a Poodle and a Mastiff at the same time. Needless to say… the Poodle was an annoying shit and I was happy to visit once it was gone.
Annie- Yeah… he showed his definite down to earthness when he said that… and I tend to think that is how he really feels but he does have the allergy concerns. I say medicate the whole family and get a Newfoundlander… but I think my choice is a nice middle ground.
B.E. Earl- Cats have not had it easy in the White House… at all.
Sheila- It’s what Radiance and Rosebud wanted… and to be honest I think its only fair since their world was turned upside down.
MetalMom- My ex has a Sky Terrier who is also known as “my other girlfriend” for all the attention she needs when I see her… awesome dog for adults… not so great with kids though.
