So last night I worked the NKOTB concert here in New York City. There were three things that struck me about the show.
1) Even though I don’t like their music… they have some of the most devout and rabid fans going… and ALL of them raved about how good the show was. So whereas I thought it was “ok”… their fans adored them… and ultimately that’s what their success depends on.
2) All those girls in my teenage years either: A) Decided to go total retro or B) Never left the 80’s. I’m hoping it was A.
3) The longer your hiatus from active music it seems the longer you encore… which to me just ain’t right.
You also never know who your going to see at a show like this. One of the things they were selling was a mug of beer and a pretzel stick that stuck out of the handle. Beer and pretzel… no better combination, right? The deal was one beer and you got one pretzel. Lo and behold I’m with one of the other guys in the corridor watching the crowd and a woman walks by with one beer and about seven pretzels. So the guy I’m with yells out and says, “Hey, who do you know to get all those pretzels?”
So she turns around and yells back, “Hey, I paid 10 cents for each one of these. Don’t believe me? Call in on the show tomorrow and I’ll tell ya!” Well… the voice actually did sound familiar… but also understand that this woman was wearing knee-high leather boots, tight jeans, and a shirt that was barely able to contain what were super voluptuous ta-tas… so in my mind I’m thinking, “Yeah, she paid ten cents for those and my name is Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang.”
Later on, after a bit of discussion, we come to find out that the woman we were talking too/gawking at is actually Carolina Bermudez who does the “gossip” from Elvis Duran & The Z100 Morning Show. Of course… this leaves me wondering if she got comped because she’s a popular radio personality (and why the HELL would she be on radio!) or did she really pay the 10 cents… and I should start answering to Chitty-Chitty.
Inquiring (and very tired) minds want to know…
