The Day of Infamy

Today marks the 66th Anniversary of the Attack on Pearl Harbor.  2,403 Americans lost their lives some 66 years ago… the second time that America as a nation had been attacked on its home soil.  Of course, the attack brought us into the global conflict that was World War II and in four years it saw us victorious and as a world leader.  My, how times do change.

On a separate note… one year after Pearl Harbor yet another bomb was dropped.  Yes… my mother was born 65 years ago today to Germanic immigrants who fled the mother country prior to the outbreak of war… right after Kristallnacht in 1938.  Being from a foreign country that was an enemy of the nation at the time was not an easy thing.

So now that my mom is 65, she gets to collect Social Security.  Needless to say, I am jealous as all hell… but hey, she more than deserves it if for no other reason than putting up with me for 33 out of those 65 years.

So happy birthday mom!
