Apparently a few readers were shocked and dismayed over a picture that Poppy had put up on her blog of myself without a hat.  So I figured that if the secret of my hair should be revealed… then I may as well reveal it here in all its glory…

Yes, that is my real hair.  No, that is not the longest it has ever been.  The truth is, I have gotten the same haircut since 1994.  Simply put, I have a high hairline around my head.  Below that line my hair is shaved with no guard, so its as close as the barber can get it.  Any hair above that line… well… it doesn’t get touched.  The growth you see here is just over a year since I had a Britney Spears like breakdown in the barber shop last summer.  My barber, unlike hers, was more than willing to do the shave job.  The two other times I’ve cut it have been in 2001 and 2004.

Generally I wear it back in a top-knotted ponytail, although right now it is not long enough to do so effectively.  The tail slips through the back of the hats I wear, and rarely do people realize I have it unless I turn around or it curls up onto my shoulder.  Letting my hair down is generally reserved for a rare occasion… such as a head banging Metallica concert, a night of dark gothic poems at The Vault, or a jam session with my friends who formed the band known as Fuzzy Jesus (a band which I am proud to say I was the official King of the Underworld… because hey… if they can take the stick up to the logo… they can keep the stick) at the local studios.

So why do I wear hats all the time?  The answer is really quite simple… its to keep the sun out of my overly sensitive to light eyes.  I started wearing them way back in second grade… and haven’t stopped since.  They have become, similar to my various t-shirts, part of my “branding” for lack of a better term.

So now I pose to you, dear friends, a question of great importance.  In roughly 12 days I have my Hot Blogger Calendar photo shoot during which there will be multiple high quality photos of myself taken in no more than three different outfits.  I will indeed be getting the sides and the back of my head shaved prior to the photo shoot.  So the question is, should I wear a hat or go just hair for the pictures?
